Summer Staff

Thank you for being interested in working at Vesper Point on our summer staff!

All staff must complete an application. New staff must have an interview, and submit 2 reference forms. Returning staff applications will be given first consideration.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old and have completed the 10th grade of high school before the summer begins. Rising 11th graders typically start off on our work crew or in the kitchen.

Summer Staff Jobs

All staff must be followers of Christ and willing to serve where needed in order to display the Gospel to campers, our community, and other staff. 

Below are descriptions of each summer staff position. These include basic responsibilities. Staff may be asked to help with other tasks during their time at camp.

Summer Staff

Staff can choose to work Term 1, Term 2, or all seven weeks. Additionally, staff training is required.

Counselors - Counselors oversee the direct ministry to our campers. They are the face of camp to campers and parents. They are responsible for the physical, spiritual, and emotional health of their campers. The day-to-day life of a counselor includes: facilitating cabin devotions, leading clinics, participating in cabin and evening activities, performing waterfront duties, and other various tasks. This person must be at least 18 years or older. This person is typically a rising sophomore in college or older.

Junior Counselors – Junior Counselors work under the guidance of Counselors to minister to our campers. They are responsible for the physical, spiritual, and emotional health of their campers. The day-to-day life of a Junior Counselor includes: facilitating cabin devotions, leading clinics, participating in cabin and evening activities, performing waterfront duties, and other various tasks. This person must be at least 16 years or older. This person is typically a rising senior in high school or a rising college freshman. 

Waterfront Staff – This person helps to maintain the safety and organization of the waterfront. They work under the leadership of the Head Waterfront to complete the following tasks: provide help during boat driver training, lead waterfront orientation/swim test, assign free time waterfront duties to other camp staff, and assist with water-related clinics/activities. This person must be at least 17 years or older, have a current lifeguard certification, a boaters license, and attend CVP boat driver training.

Work Crew – The Work Crew assists in maintaining camp property and facilities under the guidance of the Head Work Crew. The Work Crew helps with property and facilities upkeep (ex. mowing or weed eating), general maintenance repair, opening and closing day duties (luggage), and work projects. This person must be 16 years or older and a rising high school junior or older. 

Kitchie – The Kitchen Crew (Kitchies) helps to maintain and operate the kitchen under the leadership of the Head Kitchie and Cooks. The Kitchies help with preparing meals, setting up the dining hall, cleaning the kitchen and dining hall, assisting in Sugar Shack, and operating the camp store. This person must be 16 years or older and a rising high school junior or older. 

Assistant Nurse – The Assistant Nurse provides support to the Nurse each week. This person must be 18 years or older, currently enrolled in nursing/medical school or in pre-requisite courses, honor HIPAA, and have current CPR and first aid certifications.

Assistant Cook - This person assists the Cook in whatever needs the cook has and helps stock Sugar Shack. The person works in collaboration with the Head Kitchie to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly.

Nanny - This person babysits the Director’s children during the week. A typical day would include taking the kids to do fun things around camp, eating meals with them, and caring for them while the Director and his wife are pouring into campers and staff or attending to other camp business. During times the Nanny is not needed to help with babysitting, this person will be available to help with other areas of camp as needed. Summer Leadership Team

For leadership, the commitment is for the entire summer. This includes leadership training, boat driver training, term 1, term 2, and clean-up. 

Summer Assistant Director - The Summer AD helps to train and supervise summer staff, facilitate the daily schedule, promote adherence to the staff covenant, and take initiative to fill in the gaps when needed.

Head Guy & Head Girl – The Head Guy and Girl care for the Counselors spiritually, prayerfully, and in providing training. They help with the care of campers, facilitate Bible studies, and are willing to assist in making sure camp runs smoothly. They also help with the spiritual encouragement of all the staff.

Head Waterfront – This person is in charge of the safety and organization of the waterfront. They provide leadership to the Waterfront Staff and work with them to make sure the following tasks are completed: provide help during boat driver training, lead waterfront orientation/swim test, assign free time waterfront duties to other camp staff, and assist with water-related clinics/activities. This person must be at least 18 or older, have a current lifeguard certification, a boaters license, and attend CVP boat driver training.

Head Work Crew – The Head Work Crew works under the leadership of the Maintenance Director to prioritize and strategize camp maintenance and projects. He is in charge of delegating and working with the work crew on jobs, along with watching out for their health and safety. 

Head Kitchie - This person works in collaboration with the Cook and Assistant Cook. She oversees the Kitchen Crew (Kitchies) and their duties while looking out for their physical and spiritual health.

Office Assistant - This person assists the Camp Administrative Assistant to ensure camp runs smoothly. This includes miscellaneous office tasks, answering the phone, and camp store support. It is preferred that this person is 18 years or older.

Program – The program staff collaborates before camp on skits, FNL, and activities. They run Opening Day to welcome campers, facilitate all evening events and rainy day activities, and work to bring energy and fun to all campers throughout the week at camp.

Media – The Media Staff captures the experience of camp through photos and videos. This includes providing AV support for program and worship, capturing candid and cabin photos, taking care of sound equipment, assembling the weekly camp videos and promotional content, posting camper photos online daily, and promoting a positive digital footprint.

Media Assistant - The Media Assistant helps the Media Staff to capture the experience of camp through photos and videos. This includes helping to capture candid photos, assembling promotional content, promoting a positive digital footprint, and other media tasks.
